There are two commonly used terms in a dentist office. If you went to the dentist as a child then you probably know what the two terms I’m talking about are. The two terms are dental fillings and cavities. A cavity occurs from not brushing your teeth on a regular basis. Cavities could also occur if you do not go and get checked up every so often to make sure you do not have any problems in your teeth.

What would happen if you did get a cavity is probably your next train of thought? What would happen is that you would get that cavity filled. The dentist would probably do it the same day you were there for your appointment to where you did not have to come back.

The dental fillings procedure is set in place for the protection of your teeth. The barriers that the fillings create will save you from years of pain and aching from having to have your teeth removed when they get older. Also, the cost of replacing or filling in teeth can get upwards of $200 to $500 depending on how much they have to fill in. The cost of pulling your teeth is around $50 a tooth and dentures to replace your teeth can cost over and above $2,000. This is also why it’s much more cost effective to do fillings.

There are two different types of fillings. The first one is white dental fillings and the second type is sliver fillings. Silver fillings are cheap and cost effective but they have mercury in the mixture and if you have a lot of fillings done it could put an unhealthy amount of mercury in your body. The white dental fillings are a mixture of composite materials that are similar in color to your teeth and stay on just like the silver fillings do.

The fillings are sometimes called white fillings because of the color of the mixture and of it being close to what the color of your teeth is. This filling is put down on your cavity area to seal in your tooth and to help prevent other cavities from forming. This dental filling procedure also helps prevent gum disease. That’s why the dentist recommends the cavities be filled while you are there. It also prevents your teeth from chipping away.

In summarization a sliver dental filling works just like a white filling does, but the white dental filling is considered to be a safer product for your teeth. The FDA still recommends white dental fillings over the silver fillings because of the mercury content in the mixture of the silver filling. The FDA also recommends not having your fillings removed because they give a protective bearing over your teeth. The bearing provides a way for your teeth to still remain in tact and for you not to have to get them pulled until later in life or not at all. Protect your teeth and your body by using the white dental filling. This is a way your dentist and yourself will be happy with the results for years to come.
