According to the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), half of 50,000 recently surveyed adults have at least one missing tooth.

Nobel Biocare, an implant manufacturer who leaded the survey, found out that only one in three respondents were aware about the fact that the missing teeth can deform the face shape, and just 25% knew that the jaw bone erosion is causes by a tooth loss.

The AAID President Beverly Dunn, D.D.S., confirms in a press release that:

“Many patients with one or more missing teeth believe the impact is strictly superficial and refuse the lost tooth replacement. However, this insignificant, in their point of view, thing can lead to bone loss and jaw structure altering. All this is a result of other teeth shifting that ends with an easy noticeable change of the facial shape.”

“The same problem can also cause troubles with chewing certain foods, like fruits and vegetables. Such people have to eliminate these really useful products from their daily food list,” Dr. Dunn added.

“One of the safest, most precise and predictable solutions for replacing the missing teeth is the implant surgery that permits the one in need to have dental implants. This procedure is one of the best, if performed by a skilled implant dentist,” Dr. Dunn said.

“But it is very important to be careful when choosing the right dentist. The whole procedure is really difficult and needs a skilled implant professional. Any prospective patient will carefully check his dentist’s training and experience before telling him that he, the patient, is ready to have all the necessary procedures.”
