Tooth Extraction Procedure: Reasons, Surgery and Recovery

The reasons for tooth extraction may be: improper dentition, cases when teeth are removed to be replaced by the artificial teeth, or correction of the bite, severe tooth decay and inability to restore the tooth.

Tooth may be extracted also if there is acute and severe development of inflammation around the tooth structure leading to intoxication and being dangerous for human life and health: incurable osteomyelitis, chronic periodontitis, large dental cysts on the root of a tooth.

Other reason of tooth extraction is tooth mobility of the last degree, when the tooth is mobile in all directions.

Tooth extraction surgery is also performed according to dental indications. For example, when the tooth is left alone on the upper jaw, it will prevent from fixing dental prosthesis, denture on the jaw.

Tooth Extraction Surgery

Tooth extraction surgery is performed by a dentist under anesthesia – the tooth is painlessly extracted from the alveolar canal being shaken by special forceps.

Difficulties may occur when extracting wisdom teeth, as they may be located deep in the jawbone. When extracting severely damaged teeth located deep in the gum, in these cases they use additional dental root elevators and other special dental tools.

Tooth Extraction Contraindications

Contraindications for tooth extraction are: acute respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases in acute form, active mental illness, stomatitis.

The presence of these diseases does not mean that the teeth should not be pulled out; these diseases must be cured or enter into a phase of remission (quiescence) before extracting your teeth.

After Tooth Extraction

It is proved that after tooth extraction is necessary to refrain from eating and drinking for 2-3 hours, smoking, it is strictly forbidden to rinse the mouth, as all this may prevent from healing the tooth socket.

Dentists also do not recommend touching the wound after tooth extraction.

Tooth extraction may lead to possible soreness and swelling at the site of the tooth being removed. If the condition persists, consult your dentist for examination.

The possibility of salvation or inevitability of tooth extraction can be discussed with your dentist after all the necessary examinations. After examinations the dentist returns with his verdict.

After tooth extraction it is necessary to make the restoration of missing tooth row, or it can cause mobility of teeth of the opposite jaw to place the extracted tooth and the inclination of other teeth, which in turn can lead to distortion of the bite and defects of chewing.

Avoid these problems with the help of dental prosthetics (dentures, implant dentures) or dental implants instead of tooth removal.
