Tooth Colored Crowns – Get Your Smile Back

Looking for a beautiful smile you can find tooth crowns as one of the most successful ways to achieve the desirable result. In the same time you can have your teeth strengthen and protected from future high risk of dental caries. There are different tooth crowns. Each of them has its positive and negative sides.

Generally speaking there are three types of tooth crowns: made from metal alloys, ceramic materials, or a combination of both. The first one is usually done of gold. The second and the third are considered tooth colored crowns and used for cosmetic purposes.

Porcelain Tooth Colored Dental Crowns

Porcelain tooth colored crowns are made of, so called, dental ceramic. This material can possess a translucency that makes your teeth look the most cosmetically pleasing in comparison with other types of tooth crowns.

However, the porcelain is considered a thick material. This is one of the reasons why dentists advise their patients with porcelain tooth crowns not to expose the teeth to great pressure.

Another rule used while porcelain tooth crowning is excluding their usage for covering back teeth. Porcelain crowns for tooth are ok to be used for front teeth but not for molars. The same applies for children. Their teeth are too small and the porcelain tooth crown can break easily.

But dentists know how to make tooth crowning more secure. They remove all the old restoration, any caries and fractures from the teeth, and shape approximately 2 mm of the perimeter of the teeth. Then the tooth crowns are made using highly standardized techniques. A tooth colored crown covers the entire tooth, therefore supports it and helps in preventing from fractures.

Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal Tooth Crowns

Porcelain-fused-to-metal tooth crowns are a special kind of hybrid between metal crowns and teeth colored porcelain crowns. Firstly a shell of metal that fits over the tooth is made by the dental technician. A veneering of porcelain is then fused over this metal, giving the crown a white tooth-like appearance.

The main structure of these tooth crowns depends on your requirements and the situation. Sometimes the porcelain veneer covers only those aspects of the tooth crown that is easily visible. It means that the back side of each tooth has a metal surface. In other cases these crowns are mostly covered with porcelain.

Porcelain-fused-to-metal tooth colored crowns can be used for either front or back teeth. These tooth crowns are strong enough to withstand heavy biting pressures. At the same time they can have an excellent cosmetic appearance.

However, some types of mixed tooth crowns are not really tooth colored. Some of them may have a sort of a harsh white color what makes them look a little fake, especially if there is just one. So, here is important to choose a good dentist and even to ask to show you how the crowns are done. Sometimes you can choose their color, too.

As you can see, there are two main types of teeth colored crowns that will help you keeping your teeth natural color or having even a better one. So, carefully chose the right dentist in your area and be sure that your teeth crowning will be successful.
