Patients who struggle with one or several missing teeth will generally get back their beautiful smiles with the help of dental implants.

The dental implants look and behave perfectly, just like a natural set of teeth.

However, if the patient is lacking sufficient bone in the jaw where the screws will be placed, bone grafting might be necessary.

This is a surgical procedure which is usually accompanied with a few side effects such as sharp discomfort and pain, bleeding, etc.

The following are a few tips that will help you recover easier and faster from such a treatment as dental implants:

1. Easy Recovering after Dental Implants: Getting enough rest.

The body is able to heal itself nicely, if it receives the necessary amount of rest. Typically, after the dental implants procedure you can go to work the next day, but a 24 hour rest is advised in order to allow your system to recover from the processes it has been through.

2. Easy Recovering after Dental Implants: Controlling pain and swelling with proper medication.

The dentist will offer you a prescription containing the medicine that you should take in order to heal faster and control pain. After dental implants, swelling of the mouth and jaw area might appear, so make sure to take all the required medicine in order to help swelling withdraw nicely.

3. Easy Recovering after Dental Implants: Healing with salt water mouth rinses.

In order to reduce pain and swelling it is highly advisable that you rinse your mouth at least three times per day with a salt water rinse. Put one teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water and use this rinse to help with the healing process.

4. Easy Recovering after Dental Implants: Brush your teeth gently.

Right after the dental implants, you need to be cautious with brushing. You should brush the teeth extremely carefully and gently, in order to avoid irritating the tissues in your mouth which are extremely sensitive at this point. Also, after you brush your teeth, remember to rinse them properly with salt water in order to eliminate all the food particles and bacteria that might reside in your mouth.

5. Easy Recovering after Dental Implants: Eat soft foods.

Right after the dental implants have been placed, it is not recommended to start eating hard food. Instead, try to eat soft foods that are easy to chew and swallow, such as: yogurts, mush, fruit juice, tomato juice (or any other vegetable juice), blended and pureed soups, or milkshakes and puddings for the dessert.
