A smile can make a person’s face brighter and creates a good feeling. Having white teeth can really make your smile more attractive and noticeable. The sad fact is there are only a few who have white teeth.

Teeth discoloration can be caused by a lot of factors. Foods and beverages like coffee, tea, soda or soft drinks, red wine, and citrus fruits like lemon and orange can cause teeth discoloration. Smoking is another major factor that can stain teeth.

There is a modern way to whiten teeth effectively and quickly called the laser teeth whitening. Unlike other teeth whitening products out in the market today that take forever before you achieve desired results, laser teeth whitening can give instant results in just an hour. The results are remarkable because your teeth can be up to 6-10 shades whiter.

Laser teeth whitening is often performed inside a dentist’s office or clinic. The dentist will first examine the teeth and do a thorough cleaning and other preparations like protecting your lips and gums. After that, the dentist will apply a white gel usually with a high concentration of peroxide which will bleach the teeth and remove stubborn stains. The dentist will use a laser machine. It will transmit laser lights that will stimulate and activate the gel and make the whitening more effective.

Laser teeth whitening is a convenient way of whitening your teeth because it only requires a single visit to your dentist’s office and you don’t have to come back for follow ups unlike regular teeth whitening procedures that requires many sessions and follow ups.

Although laser teeth whitening can be considered the best way to achieve whiter teeth, there are some disadvantages that you must know.

Laser Teeth Whitening Advantages and Disadvantages

First of all, laser teeth whitening is one of the most expensive teeth whitening procedures. You will have to spend more money in order to get this process done. They say that the confidence you can get from whiter teeth and a brighter smile will be worth the amount of money you have to pay for the procedure.

Instant teeth whitening using laser lights can cause teeth sensitivity or can make it worse if your teeth are already sensitive. It would be best to use toothpaste with potassium nitrate to reduce sensitivity.

Your lips and gums can become irritated once they were not protected properly or completely and made contact with the strong gel. They can get sore or inflamed but this will eventually stop and heal in just a few days.

After the laser teeth whitening procedure, you will have to take care of your newly whitened teeth. Avoid foods that can cause discoloration for at least a week after the procedure to maximize the effect. Of course a good oral hygiene is still the best way to care and maintain the whiteness of your teeth. Brush and floss after every meal if possible to prevent stains from clinging and being absorbed by the enamel. Avoid smoking and visit your dentist regularly every six months to make sure you will achieve total oral health.
