What to Do with Knocked Out or Chipped Tooth

That knocked out tooth can make you see zillions of stars, but if the accident already happened, you now need to focus on what is there to do.

HOT!

You don’t want to walk around with a front teeth gap, and you don’t want to get an infection there. So here are a few dental scenarios, and what you should do if any of these happen:

In case of a knocked out tooth

It is extremely important that you do wash the tooth with water, and that you do not wipe it. You should place the tooth as it is in a glass filled with cold milk, or in a small recipient filled with saliva.

It might sound gross, but only this way can an avulsed tooth be preserved until you get to the dentist. The dentist will most probably try to replace the tooth back in its socket, and thus the tooth will be saved. Time is of high importance, so act quickly if possible.

In case of a chipped tooth or broken tooth

Have you bitten down on that un-popped corn and chipped your tooth? Maybe tried to open a bottle with your teeth? Depending on the severity of the issue, your dentist is the first person to call.

Sometimes, you may not realize it, but an internal jaw fracture might also occur. This requires surgery, or sometimes the dentist can opt for tooth extraction. On the other hand, if it is only an external damage, your dentist might be able to repair the tooth, or do a root canal treatment and add a crown.

In case of loose teeth

Sometimes, if you have hit yourself, or have been hit by an object, the tooth will not suffer total avulsion, but only partial. This is when your tooth becomes loose, and you don’t know what to do. Firstly, contact your dentist immediately and go for a checkup.

Do not eat or drink anything, so that you will not aggravate the damage. Sometimes, the dentist will use a special bonding system. He will bond the damaged and loose tooth to the teeth which are healthy, until healing occurs and until the damaged tooth strengthens enough in the socket.
