Oral sedation in dentistry is a technique used to reduce anxiety in people who are feared of the dental treatment and the consequences and side effects of it. Dental phobia is the fear to any dental procedure, and to the dentist which leads to anxiety when a treatment is going on. Different sedative techniques help in reducing dental fear and anxiety, thus easing the dental treatment process both for the dentist and for the patient.
The mouth is a sensitive area. As a result of poor hygiene, external physical trauma or even genetics, it can give rise to varying degrees of pain and can even be a source of poor self-image. Missing teeth, too much space between teeth (diastema), overcrowding of teeth, temporomandibular joint disorders, jaw injuries, deteriorated gums, mismatch between the upper teeth and the lower teeth are some of the problems that can arise. Reconstructive dental surgery is often required to correct these anomalies.
Wherever you are and whatever you do, dental emergency situations can suddenly appear, usually in the most inappropriate moments. Besides everything you can and should do in such situations, not to let things go worse, a professional emergency dental care is anyway needed.
