If you think that brushing a set of teeth with braces is actually more uncomfortable or difficult than a set of teeth without braces, you are wrong. Teeth with braces are the same strong as they used to be before the treatment, so there is no need to restrain yourself from performing your usual daily cleaning regimen.

Even more so, braces nowadays are so comfortable, and you can get so used to them, that you might actually forget that you wear them throughout the day. Within the mouth the food particles might create havoc as they build up not only in between your teeth but also in between the space of the braces, so you truly need to pay attention to the regular brushing program.

Then, plaque can easily be formed from the germs and bacteria that are residing in your mouth, and if you do not clean your teeth regularly, you might end up with even more gum and teeth problems (such as tooth decay, gum infections, etc.).

If you wear braces, it is advisable that you buy yourself a toothbrush with angled bristles. This way, you will be able to clean your teeth and the spaces in between the teeth and braces properly. If you do not have such a toothbrush, you could use the method of positioning your regular brush in a 45 degree angle while cleaning your teeth.

Thus, food debris will be effectively removed, leaving you with a clean set of teeth. Again, you should not brush your teeth softly, just because you wear braces, because in this way you will not be able to cleanse your mouth and teeth effectively.

When brushing the teeth, make sure that you use circular movements on the surface of 2 or 3 teeth at a time. By implementing this type of circular movement, you will not miss any surface; when you are done, move on to the next set of teeth.

Then, rinse your mouth thoroughly in order to remove the toothpaste deposits and other possible particles. Make sure to floss your teeth and the surface between wire and braces every evening using special waxed floss, and rinse your mouth with a re-freshening mouthwash.

  1. It is quite a daunting task to keep the teeth with braces clean and to ensure that there is no tooth decay. Tooth brushing will maintain the oral hygiene but the most important thing should be the prevention of tooth decay in teeth with braces. There is one way of keep the teeth healthy and caries-free and that is eating healthy balanced food. People with braces should take care of the fact that they consume nutrient rich diet which contains fat soluble vitamins, specially vitamin D and minerals like calcium and phosphorus. Raw grass fed milk; fish, cod liver oil, cheese and yogurt are few of the rich sources of these nutrients .Deficiency of these components in our diet causes cavities. Prevention and cure of cavity is possible only with restoration of nutrient rich diet. There is a book “Cure tooth decay” by Ramiel Nagel which advocates the importance of diet for prevention of cavities and also reversing the cavities in some cases.
