Regular dental braces care is important for the overall health of your gums, teeth, and mouth. When you have braces in your mouth there are specific methods for caring for the braces that have been applied. Care while wearing braces includes special techniques for brushing to ensure that the braces and teeth are well cleaned.
When brushing braces there are some steps you will have to follow on a daily basis. Inadequate care of your teeth when you have braces can lead to cavities and decay around where the braces have been applied as well as on other areas of your teeth.
Care while wearing braces involves brushing your teeth immediately following any meal or snack. If you are on the go or traveling you may want to bring along a spare toothbrush and some tooth paste so that you can brush your teeth while on the go. Do not forget to bring along some extra floss too. There are tooth care travel packs that work wonderfully for on the go dental braces care.
When brushing your braces you will want to make sure that you work the tooth brush along your gums, between the wires holding on the braces and to make sure your braces are particle free.
Your orthodontist or your dentist can provide you with a brush for the purpose of getting in and around the wires of your braces. When you are working the brush over your teeth you will want to do so in a circular motion. As you brush move the brush over three teeth and repeat the circular motion around eight to ten times; then move on to the next three teeth.
Once you have worked your way around the front sides of your teeth you will need to move onto the backside of the teeth and to repeat the process. To brush so meticulously may seem tedious but you will be blessed with a cavity free experience! Follow your brushing efforts by flossing.
If you want a more powerful toothbrush, there are tooth brushes that are battery powered that can be used to get a good circular sweep of the teeth as you brush; your dental braces care provider may have some selections for you and some brushes are sold over the counter. These tooth brushes are wonderful since they can help to clean out any plaque forming bacteria from between the teeth, from around the gums, and from off the gums and teeth.
If you are concerned about dental braces care and you want to really ensure that your braces are well cared for, you can invest your money in a water pick device too. With a water pick you can apply pressured water to your braces, teeth, and your gums and this will help ensure that the hard to get to areas are clean and free of food particles. You can also use the water pick to clean along the gum line where plaque tends to accumulate; this will help diminish any plaque accumulation and reduce the possibility of cavity formation along the gum line.
