We all know that brushing and flossing is extremely important, but many tend to disregard that how you brush the teeth is also extremely important.

Any dentist you will talk to, will say that in order to prevent a lot of damage to both your teeth and your gums you should brush your teeth at least twice per day, use the floss and an antibacterial mouthwash.

Moreover, regular dental checkups are a must if you truly want to keep at bay dental complications such as gum disease, abscesses, infections and even oral cancer.

An electric toothbrush is recommended, but if you don’t have one or don’t want to use one, choose a manual toothbrush with soft bristles. The harsh bristled toothbrush might easily damage the enamel on your teeth.

Brushing done gently is the most advisable, because with very vigorous strokes you can do damage not only to the tooth enamel but to your gums as well.

Besides using sweeping motions, you should also get used to the “tipping” motion with the brush upon the surface of the teeth. This motion will help you clean nicely the crevices in between the teeth.

The entire mouth is a place that can easily withhold bacteria. Therefore besides brushing your teeth, you will also need to cleanse thoroughly the tongue and even the palate (roof of the mouth) and insides of your cheeks.

You will definitely notice that your entire breath is much fresher and you will have that feeling of a thoroughly sanitized mouth.
