Top 10 Foods to Avoid for Whiter and Brighter Teeth
Brighter, whiter teeth are a hallmark of beauty, health and vitality. Keeping that gorgeous smile bright can make you irresistible, but not everyone has naturally white teeth.
Movie star, white teeth are desirable these days, so many dentists are offering advanced teeth whitening treatments to their patients.
The results of professional teeth whitening are so brilliant and transformative that protecting those new, pearly whites will be at the top of your list. Keep your teeth whiter and brighter for longer by avoiding these top ten foods.
1. Red wine.
Red wine may have health benefits, but drink white wine to avoid unnecessary stains. If you must have a glass of red, rinse your mouth with water, or brush your teeth afterwards.
2. Black coffee.
If you love coffee and can’t imagine your day without it, add milk to lighten things up and dilute the staining power of your java. Black coffee is deeply pigmented and can turn your teeth beige quickly.
3. Dark-Colored Tea.
Dark, concentrated tea such as English Breakfast and Earl Grey are notorious teeth stainers. If you love tea you don’t have to give it up. Enjoy the taste and health benefits of tea by switching to green, white, or herbal teas instead.
4. Dark-Colored Sodas.
The sugar and acids in soda cause tooth decay and an off-color smile. Use a straw to limit the soda’s contact with your teeth or better yet switch to seltzer.
5. Berry Juice.
Steer clear of dark berry juice like purple grape juice and try apple juice or white grape juice. Alternatively, pour a tall glass of seltzer with a splash of juice for all the flavor and none of the discoloration.
6. Ice Pops or other Frozen Treats.
Frozen ice pops are very refreshing but they wreak havoc on your teeth. If the ice pop makes your lips or tongue stained, your teeth will also suffer staining. Choose a light colored treat. Lemon ice is usually dye-free and tasty too.
7. Soy Sauce.
Asian food just wouldn’t be the same without a dash of soy sauce. Skip the extra soy sauce or soy sauce dips. Your beautiful, white teeth will thank you for it and so will your dentist.
8. Balsamic Vinegar.
Balsamic vinegar is practically ink. If you could fill a pen and write with it, it will stain your teeth.
9. Tomato Sauce.
Tomato sauce is delicious and good for you. The problem with tomato sauce is it can discolor your teeth. Avoid the red sauce when possible or drink water to swish away the bright red pigment found in tomatoes.
10. Deep-Colored Berries.
Raspberries and blueberries are good for you and full of antioxidants. The downside to enjoying berries is the potential for teeth staining that comes with them. Brush your teeth after you consume berries to minimize any staining.
