Women Have Better Dental Health, Study Shows

According to research findings, women are the ones who pay much more attention to their oral health than men. According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), women are going more frequently to the routine dental checkups, and they also are more likely to visit the dentist immediately as they go through an injury or when they feel sick.

Moreover, research findings published in the “Journal of Periodontology” show that women care more for the health of their teeth and gums than men.

Here are some of the findings published in the Journal:

  • Women are much more likely to use the floss on a daily basis than men (about 26% more)
  • 3/4 of the women would feel frustrated and embarrassed if they would miss one tooth, compared to only 50% of the men who would feel embarrassed about it.
  • Women notice much faster if another person is missing a tooth, than men
  • Only 33% of the men consider that periodontitis is important to maintain a good overall health, compared to 44% of the women who believe so

It has also been pointed out that women in general have a much better understanding of how important proper dental health is, and they are also carrying a much more positive attitude towards the necessity of dental visits. The women involved in the study also struggle with fewer signs linked to periodontal disease such as dental plaque or bleeding in the gums.

Periodontal health is very important if you want to maintain a general good health. Respecting a daily dental health regimen is very important, including brushing and flossing at regular intervals.

Moreover, a comprehensive periodontal evaluation should be performed at least once in a year. A periodontist is the most suitable professional who can run the proper examinations and suggest the most effective treatment plan in case of periodontitis.

When periodontal disease is present, a chronic inflammation affecting the gum tissue appears. If one leaves the condition untreated this gum infection can easily lead to tooth loss.

Moreover, several researchers link gum disease directly to the apparition of other chronic diseases such as diabetes, arthritis or cardiovascular disease.
