CARLSBAD — Many doctors and dentists help the needy by traveling to impoverished areas. By comparison, Dr. Michael Manhard’s dental practice, in upscale Carlsbad, is a rather unlikely place to offer a free day of dentistry.
On Saturday, Manhard and other dentists will use the office to offer a day of cleanings, fillings and extractions at no charge. They will set up 100 folding chairs in the parking lot of the Carlsbad Medical Dental Plaza to accommodate waiting patients.

Local dental hygienist joins ‘Gift From the Heart’ campaign to provide free oral care services this Saturday
In order to help those who may be financially strapped, dental hygienists across Ontario, including Kemptville’s Hygiene Now, are providing oral care services at no charge this Saturday (Feb. 13). Called the ‘Gift From the Heart’ campaign, this is the second year for the initiative, which helps members of the public who have difficulty accessing dental hygiene services or those who are financially unable to receive such services.

Free Dental Work on Valentine’s Day
Local dentists will provide free dental treatments on Valentine’s Day as part of the “Dentists with Heart” charity event. The event provides free dental treatment for those who can’t otherwise afford dental care.
The event will take place between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm at Big Smile Dental at 2833 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago (in the Logan Square neighborhood). The volunteer dental teams will see as many patients as possible, and will offer extractions, x-rays, fillings, cleanings, diagnostics and pain control.

Dental event for the needy postponed
Charity dental event postponed
The annual “Dentistry With a Heart” program has been postponed because of bad weather.
The event, which was originally scheduled for today, is now set for Friday, April 30, beginning at 7 a.m. at the Fredericksburg Smile Center in the Gateway Village shopping center in Fredericksburg.
This is the fifth year that volunteers at Dr. Cathie Butterworth’s office have offered free cleanings, fillings and extractions to the needy. Persistent snowfall this winter, however, caused the program’s first cancellation.

Nonprofit medical practice in Bristol to help uninsured
BRISTOL — A new medical practice that specializes in treating uninsured and underinsured people is opening this month in downtown Bristol.
The organization started in 1972 in Middletown, she said, as a free dental clinic and now provides dental work in 140 Connecticut schools.

Free dental treatment on Valentine’s Day

Dr. Theodore Siegel D.D.S., P.C. and his entire staff at Big Smile Dental will be at work on Sunday helping others. This year a number of other dentists will be joining Siegel, turning Sunday into a charity event called “Dentists with Heart.”
Siegel founded the event years ago as a way to give back to his community. Many people in the Chicago area can’t afford health insurance and even fewer can afford dental insurance. Dr. Siegel says dental care is a necessary service, which is why and his team are offering their services for no charge.

Salinas students smile after free dental services
Jesus was one of the 120 Salinas students who received free dental care this week inside a 53-foot mobile dental clinic parked outside the Twin Creeks Golf Course, 1551 Beacon Hill Drive.
The free dental care was provided by Christina’s Smile Dental Clinic, which has been serving low-income children since 1990 in the country. The clinic has served more than 42,000 and given $19 million worth of dentistry services.

There will be over 40 doctors and their staff along with many volunteers giving dental treatment such as fillings, extractions and cleanings. There are no income guidelines or any other restrictions. Free dental clinic provides relief
Free smiles were the order of the day Thursday at Dr. Lorna Salyer’s Bowling Green Family Dentistry practice as needy patients packed the waiting room for their turn in the chair during a free clinic for the uninsured.
Some had been standing in a pre-dawn line that had formed by the time clinic workers showed up for work at 6 a.m. The 200 or so patients who showed up throughout the day needed those smiles, as it turns out, because the majority of them required major care.

Giving kids a smile free dental services at UB
Hundreds of children received free oral health care and learned about oral hygiene last week during the School of Dental Medicine’s ninth annual Give Kids A Smile Day, part of a national initiative to encourage healthy dental habits early in life.
From morning through the afternoon on Friday, young people and their parents flowed in and out of Squire Hall, South Campus, where volunteers welcomed them and checked coats. Patients, including boys and girls from Head Start who arrived on yellow school buses, received free dental exams, fluoride treatment, X-rays, sealant and instruction on how to take care of their teeth and gums.

Blue Ribbon Foundation helps children get dental care
The Blue Ribbon Foundation of Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania is marking February by spotlighting area organizations whose projects funded by The foundation seek to fill local gaps in dental care.
Many parts of the country still lack dentists, and the federal government has designated much of Northeastern Pennsylvania as Dental Professional Shortage Areas. In response, The foundation awarded eight grants totaling $141,460 during 2008-09 to six nonprofits to help them provide a range of valuable dental procedures, oral hygiene education and fluoride treatments to those who need help the most.
