Over the past weekend, a number of 200 people have showed up to the free clinic to take advantage of the free heath and dental services offered there.

People who did not own a proper health and dental insurance have received free dental and other medical services from the “Cascade Medical Team” at PeaceHealth located on Williamette Street.

After noticing that so many people are actually living without proper health and dental insurance, the team opened up a free clinic in the month of July this year.

Ever since there have been served around 900 people who were in desperate need of medical and dental services.

At the clinic there is a wide range of volunteers who have joined forces to give something back to the community: there are dentists, pharmacists, doctors, and even health counselors available to offer their best expertise to those who come to the clinic for health support.

Doctor Dennis Schuelke from the Cascade Medical Team admits that the team of volunteers cannot indeed see everybody who needs their help, but they can certainly offer help to all those people that show up at the clinic’s doors.

She continues by explaining that there are several advantages available for people who live with limited resources, but people simply don’t know how to find these advantages and exploit these benefits.

For instance, volunteers at the clinic are able to redirect people with more serious health complications to other organizations or health centers where they will get proper care.

In Lane County, according to United Way estimates there are between 50-60,000 people living without health and dental insurance. This clinic has been the third of its kind in Lane County alone, and the non profit organization estimates that there will be one more such clinic inaugurated in April next year.

Such humanitarian organizations are generally welcomed nationwide, since there are many secluded areas where people cannot have access to proper health care. Moreover, there are many regions where people live on very little resources, but they still need proper health care in order to be able to have a decent life.
