Friday was a lucky day in the life of a few children in need, who cannot afford proper dental care.
The free dental care day was held at the Bozeman’s Community Health Partners Dental Clinic.
The event was sponsored by many nurses from the area, by the Montana Dental Association, the Montana Area Health Education Centre, Galavan Transit and Gallatin City-County Health Department.
Children from Gallatin and Park counties were welcome on this day to receive free and professional dental care.
The coordinator of the event, Margie Campbell said that they were aiming to help in particular children who are in great need of restorative dental work.
Dentist Jane Gilette who was one of free dental service providing dentists at the event told that although cavities in children are totally predictable, dental caries represent an even more common chronic disease than asthma.
Dr Gilette continued by revealing some things about the background of the event.
She told that there were 25 dentists involved, who volunteered and they visited several elementary schools and screened the oral health of the kids. There were actually two main purposes of this practice:
- To collect oral health data of children in public schools
- And to identify those isolated cases that needed urgent restorative dental care
After the evaluations, parents of the children who needed extremely urgent dental care were contacted and offered these free dental services.
At the event there were 4 dentists working who managed to offer proper treatment for 14 children on Friday at the Clinic.
