More Treatment In The Works At The MOV Health Department
The health department will provide screenings and then refer patients to dentists who are volunteering their time for treatment. Funding is being provided by several area foundations and the state of West Virginia. Wittberg said the service comes after 1300 adults were treated at a free dental clinic offered nearly two years ago.
“Due to that Mission of Mercy and due to the cooperation of the dentists that helped us with that and continue to want to do something for the community, we’ve got a sizable number of them, that are willing to work with us on an adult model of oral health care,” said Wittberg. In addition, the health department will start a breast and cervical cancer screening program in July.

Free dental treatment in need of equipment for future growth
OKLAHOMA CITY – When John Gladden, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Oklahoma, learned that America’s Mission of Mercy was in crucial need of funding for new equipment to continue offering free dental treatment events for the needy, he rallied Delta Dental member companies throughout the U.S. Combined Delta Dental member companies have provided $50,000 in donations and pledged another $100,000 to match public “votes” of support through social media.
In what has spread to 14 states since 2003, America’s Mission of Mercy is a two-day, free dental event where hundreds of local dental professionals volunteer their time to provide cleanings, fillings, extractions, and other services to adults and children in need in their community. As the organization predicts record growth to more than 25 states in 2012, supporting organizations are stepping up efforts to help America’s Mission of Mercy purchase new equipment required to support the rapid growth.
