Pre school aged children in the area are highly predisposed to what is called early childhood tooth decay (ECTD), experts in the field have noted.

Therefore, a signal of alarm is being pushed for parents, who are suggested to pay more attention to their child’s oral health habits.

On April the 5th, in Castleton is scheduled a free dental screening event for pre-school aged children.

The Dental Screening Clinic is provided by the Haliburton, Kawartha & Pine Ridge District health unit.

The event will take place at the Ontario Early Years Centre, with the mobile unit located at the Old Castleton Town Hall (1780 Percy Street).

Preschool children will be provided with a visual dental screening by a registered dental hygienist, and children will also get the proper recommendations and treatments.

Parents are encouraged to join the event, since they will have the chance to discuss with the Health Unit staff several important issues regarding the dental health of their children.

Everyone interested can contact the Health Unit on the following number: 1-866-888-4577 ext. 247.

Part of the Oral Health Month in April, the preschool dental screening event is organized in order to attract attention of parents or caregivers that tooth decay is a condition that can affect children at a very young age.

However, with proper prevention and monitoring of the child’s oral health habits, tooth decay can be avoided.

The Early Childhood Tooth Decay is also a condition that needs proper treatment in time otherwise it may lead to other health complications for the child.
