QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM)– The Adams County Health Department is giving kids something to smile about. Area dentists are teaming up with the Health Department to give kids free dental check-ups. The Give Kids a Smile program is in it’s 6th year and organizers say demand for the service keeps growing.
The Give Kids a Smile Program provides free dental treatment for kids who might not be able to see a dentist on a regular basis. Today, more than 125 kids in Adams County are getting check-ups.

Cavity Prevention Day
The Luzerne County Community College Dental Department and the Northeast Pennsylvania Dental Hygiene Association (NPDHA) will hold a Kids’ Cavity Prevention Day on Saturday, February 26, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the College’s Dental Clinic. The program is for children ages three to sixteen, and will include free dental exams, free cavity varnish to strengthen enamel and help prevent tooth decay, free pit and fissure sealants (when indicated), free oral hygiene instruction, and a free toothbrush. Disabled kids enjoy a day of free healthcare
Dozens of children with disabilities received free dental healthcare in Pinang, Tangerang, in an event organized by the local branch of the Indonesian Dentists Association (PDGI) and the Indonesian Optometrists Association (Perhati). The free health check was part of the celebration of the 18th anniversary of Tangerang municipality and the 64th anniversary of the PDGI. The PDGI also donated dental hygiene supplies to the disabled students.

Tooth fairy is a big hit at Adams County Health Center Dental Clinic
“Tooth fairy” LuAnne McClean, a dentist at the Art of Dentistry in Quincy, encourages Logan Martin, 10, of Quincy, as he has work done on his teeth Friday during the American Dental Association’s nationwide Give Kids a Smile program at the Adams County Health Center. Local dentists provided free dental treatment to 161 kids from five Illinois counties.

Southwestern College to Provide Free Youth Dental Exams
On Saturday, February 12, Southwestern College will hold free dental exams for children ages 1 to 18. The exams will be given at the College’s Dental Hygiene Program Clinic, located at its Higher Education Center in National City. For more information or to make an appointment, community members can call (619) 692-8858.
In 2010, students in the College’s Dental Hygiene Program provided free dental care to more than 1,000 patients. During their studies, each student also volunteered for more than 30 hours at community health events and fairs, providing oral health education.
