Stratford dentists offer free dental care
STRATFORD — Root canals. Tooth extractions. Fillings. Dental work isn’t exactly pleasant — or cheap. And in this tumultuous economy, many families are reluctant to spend money on it. Stratford dentists Mark Samuels and Joseph Jarmon will provide free emergency dental treatment and cleanings to anyone who cannot otherwise afford it from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 18 at their dentistry office in Ryders Lane shopping plaza.
Samuels and Jarmon had long participated in Give Kids a Smile, a one-day program that provides children with free dental help through the Oral Health Bridgeport Initiative. But the program collapsed this year, Samuels said, due to a lack of funding.

Mission of Mercy dental clinic planned
Community members are partnering to offer free dental help to Rockingham County residents in a “Mission of Mercy” clinic this July. Rev. Dr. Bill Duke, pastor of First Baptist Church and coordinator of the Mission of Mercy project, said the project is a response to the “overwhelming need” for free and low-cost dental care that he saw as a board member of the Free Clinic of Rockingham County.
The free clinic serves the “working poor,” he said, offering free dental help two evenings per week to Rockingham County residents working minimum wage jobs without health insurance. The demand for dental services is high and the waiting list for services is so extensive that the free clinic is no longer accepting new dental patients. The Mission of Mercy project will step in and fill the gaps by providing free dental help to those who need it the most.
