Free Dental Care Will be Offered in Clinics for the Uninsured

On November 25&26, the Oregon Mission of Mercy holds its 4th annual ORMOM free dentistry services clinic.

Free dental treatment provided by volunteers

All the free dental treatments at this two-day clinic will be provided on a first come first served basis.

Such charity free dental care is certainly not the perfect solution to the huge dental care access problem of the nation, but still these clinics can make an important difference in the lives of so many poor people, stated Dr.Teri Barichello the ORMOM chair.

On these free dental work days there will be approximately 1600 volunteers donating their services. The volunteers include licensed dentists, hygienists, assistants and even students from the OHSU School of Dentistry.

Patients without the means to pay for dental care they need are welcome to join this free dental treatments clinic. The dental treatments offered include professional dental cleanings, extractions, limited treatment partial dentures and cavity fillings.

At the free dental help day held last year, the Oregon Mission of Mercy donated $829,119.15 worth of free dental treatments. Also, last year as many as 1554 needy patients received the free dental treatments they required so much.

According to Dr. Barichello the greatest majority of dental diseases are preventable. Regular dental checkups, and a good dental hygiene regimen at home can save patients from a lot of dental pain and discomfort in the long run.

The role of the free dental clinics held annually is to provide basic, preventative and sometimes even advanced dental treatments to patients who do not have dental insurance, or they are out of a job and cannot afford the required dental care.
