Free Dental Assistance to be Provided to 100 Philadelphia-Area Children

HARRISBURG, Pa., — United Concordia Dental, the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and the Cathedral of Praise Community Church will provide free dental assistance to 100 Philadelphia area children this month.

“Today, more than one fourth of all children from ages 2 to 5 and half of those ages 12 to 15 are affected by tooth decay,” said Jerome Blum, D.D.S., United Concordia corporate dental director. “Tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood disease — five times more common than asthma. That’s why we are partnering with these two organizations to provide free dental assistance to children in need.”

Exams, oral health education and instruction, and referrals for follow-up care will be provided at the church at 6400 Haverford Ave., from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 8 and 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. on April 29.

Center for Disabilities and Development

DENTAL CARE FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES offers to qualifying patients limited preventative and restorative treatment. Provides free dental assistance to children and young adults who are both disabled and from a low-income family in Iowa. Income of clients’ family should be under 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Client must have a disability and not have dental insurance or be qualified for Title XIX or the Hawk-I Program.

Dental assistance that are available consist of comprehensive preventive and restorative dental treatment. No orthodontic assistance or cosmetic dentistry is provided. Dental Treatment Under General Anesthesia Program does not pay for medical expenses related to dental treatment under general anesthesia including physician charges, operating room fees, anesthesia and recovery room fees.

There is a new kids dental assistance in Bay County

Panama City – The Bay County Health Department Children’s Dental Clinic has a new home on east 15th Street. Official say the clinic is in high demand and could help up to 18,000 children in Bay County. Health department officials started working on the vacant dental clinic on East 15th Street back in November of 2010.

Nine out of 10 Malaysians suffer from dental cavities

PETALING JAYA: A Health Ministry survey found that nine out of 10 Malaysians suffer from dental cavities which is linked to heart disease, diabetes and stroke. Malaysian Dental Health Association president Datuk Dr How Kim Chuan said the public was still unaware that their failure to maintain oral health would affect their chances in developing life-threatening diseases.

The campaign was launched by the Health Ministry’s deputy secretary-general (finance) oral health division, Chin Phaik Yoong This year, he said the campaign, themed “Our Mission: Zero Cavities”, gained the support from over 700 participating clinics offering free dental assistance.

Smiles for Life: New Haven dentist helps children in need

NEW HAVEN — From March through June, local Crown Council dentist Dr. John Levy of New Haven is giving everyone the opportunity to give children a reason to smile — while giving themselves the gift of a brighter, more beautiful smile. During his Smiles for Life campaign, Levy and The Levy Dental Group, will offer professional teeth whitening assistance to his community at a significantly reduced cost and donate 100 percent of proceeds to support children in need.

Services offered free dental assistance: screenings, cleanings, examinations, X-rays, fluoride treatments, sealants, extractions and fillings. The staff at Levy volunteered for the day as part of national Give Kids A Smile Day.
