The Smile Gen Serve Day was aimed at families who cannot afford proper dental services and Dr. Ian Young and staff painted the beautiful smiles on faces of entire such families.
Since last year, Dr. Young has offered one such humanitarian day every month offering his services to the Mesa Community Asset and Resource Enterprise Partnership non profit organization. The dental services have been performed at the dental clinic of the organization itself.
According to volunteer Rainey Garrison, Dr. Young has approached CARE organization and proposed to invite even more families to his two dental practices, in order to benefit from this event. There have been assisted 15 patients from 8am to 2pm at the Gilbert practice of the dentist, and he opened up the office for the public only later.
Volunteer Garrison stated further that there is indeed a huge need for such dental care services for families with their children, who don’t have proper health insurance. Therefore such events are extremely welcome and they represent a very important step in the health life of the community.
According to a patient that has been served at the free dental day event, Tiffany Jackson, such events prove extremely useful for entire underserved families of the community. Moreover, it is not only the dental services that are offered for free, but families have also received oral health education tips, and information regarding how to prevent certain dental complications.
Dr. Young stated that he always liked to be involved in such humanitarian events, where he can truly offer back something valuable to the community. He also stated that families have been present from the early morning hours at the event, each of them waiting to receive the dental healthcare that they cannot afford otherwise. There have been around 40 dental offices that participated at the Southeast Valley event, and Dr. Young will definitely be included for the Smile Gen Serve Day event which will be held next year as well.
