Utah dentists pitch in to give kids a smile
WEST VALLEY CITY — Hundreds of Utah dentists and volunteers had one goal in mind Saturday — give kids a smile. Hundreds of children across the state visited a place they normally don’t like — the dentist. But they were happy to go, because for them, dental work is hard to come by. “We’re taking care of their needs and getting them going because some of these children might have never seen a dentist before,” said Joe Mirci, lead dentist with the Give Kids a Smile program.
More than 800 volunteer dentists and staff gave away half a million dollars worth of free dental care. In Utah, more than 150,000 kids don’t have dental insurance. Tooth decay is the most common health problem in children.
