Healthy Smiles, the organization which operates a free dental clinic twice a month, was funded by the Spartanburg Community so that the organization will be able to offer free dental services for children who are in need.

It is important to mention that Healthy Smiles usually partners with the local school districts in order to offer children free dental health screenings.

The attendees at the Thanksgiving Services were encouraged to offer as much as they can as a donation, because the Spartanburg Community Foundation has offered in turn a donation of $5,000 to Healthy Smiles, so that it can continue offering these free dental services.

Healthy Smiles was selected to receive this year’s donation funds, mainly because the organization is actually supporting such an important noble cause – the dental health of children who cannot afford such free dental services.

Children are always being covered by the health insurance of their parents. However, quite a big problem is posed by the fact that many parents earn above the average and they do not qualify for the system offered by Medicaid.

Even if they indeed earn more, they still cannot afford any kind of health or dental insurance. There is obviously an important gap that needs to be filled here, and this is where these organizations in the Carolinas come in to offer some help.

According to Dr. Jack Keith who is the founding member of the Healthy Smiles organization, it is extremely important to help the poor people who work hard, yet they cannot afford even decent medial and dental services.

When children are left untreated, they will sooner or later struggle with painful dental issues. This in turn plays an important role in why children are missing from school.

They have to put up with untreated cavities and toothaches. If organizations such as the Healthy Smiles in Spartanburg address this issue efficiently, children will benefit from self esteem from an early age.

This is something that will stay with them all throughout their adult life as well, and this is perhaps the most important thing.
