According to a recent press release, the Amerigroup Foundation is ready to offer more than $150,000 to support the free and affordable health care and dental services of people from the state of Virginia, who are uninsured.

There are many organizations that will receive funding, among which it is important to mention:

  • The VDAF- the Virginia Dental Association Foundation
  • The Health Wagon, Inc Virginia
  • The University of Virginia Office of Telemedicine

The greatest part of the donation will be redirected towards the South Western area of the state, and towards the RAM Health Expedition in Wise County, VA. These donations will reach the organizations this year in July.

The Virginia Dental Association Foundation is part of a tradition, which involves holding on a yearly basis a local free clinic. VDAF, the Health Wagon, and the team of the University, partner up each year for the three day free clinic that serves the underinsured and uninsured people in the area. These people are offered free dental care, vision exams, and other important medical care services.

According to executive director of the VDAF, Terry Dickinson, free dental care worth of $1.28 million will be offered through the support. Such an immense effort is worthwhile, since there have been served more than 22,000 patients from the area already through these programs. These people have also been extremely glad always that they didn’t have to travel to far regions in order to have access to proper health care services.

In 2010, the RAM Health Expedition has actually been the greatest of its kind on the territory of the US. Patients have been arriving from well over 16 states in order to receive the necessary treatments and exams. At the event, there were 1,746 volunteers helping out, and free care has been provided to more than 2,800 patients, worth a total of $2.3 million.

The chairman of the “Amerigroup Foundation”, John Littel says he is extremely proud that the group could provide not only funding, but also several volunteers to help the RAM Expedition make its job properly.
