The Search Engine Basics for Dentists

No matter how much the internet has revolutionized the way that business is conducted the fact is that dentists are still very much hesitant to take their practices online. It’s probably because of the general fear of the unknown.

Dentists do not know what the inclusion of the internet will bring and that is why they stay away from it. But what they do not realize is that the internet is a very simple realm and the way that patients access information through it is extremely straightforward.

By not having a dental website, dentists are saying “no” to countless of potential dental patients.

When your prospective patients realize that they a need a new dentist, they no longer turn to the Yellow Pages. On the other hand, they boot up their computers and, with the help of their browsers, go to any of the major search engines like Google.com or Yahoo.com.

Your prospective patient wants to find out which among the many dental practices in your area can best solve his crown problem. So goes on to run the search “dental practice crown repair” with the name of your community.

Google will then help out your prospective patient by listing down the websites which offer the service. And one of those websites should be YOUR dental website.

Now, Google will round up a couple hundred thousand of websites which are relevant to your prospective patient’s search. A searcher will usually go through the websites found on the first page.

Now, if the websites on the first page do not satisfy him, he might move on to the next page but he will never get to the 124th website. For this reason, your website has to be on the first page if not be the top result in order for it to receive significant traffic.

So how can you make your website appear on the first search engine results page? First, your website should have been submitted to key search engines and directories.

Search engines like Google.com will only list down websites which it has on record. Submitting your website is very easy, a task that you can do yourself. Second, search engines rank websites according to importance. You need to show that your dental website is important in order for it to be ranked high.

You can do this by providing links, both incoming and outgoing ones. Finally, only websites which are the most relevant to the search terms provided are listed and ranked high. This is where all those talk about keywords fit in.

If your website does not mention anything about “dental practices” or “crown repair”, then Google will think that your website does not have anything to do with the keywords used by the searcher.
