Dental Fear: Feeling Comfortable at the Dentist

Most of the people out there fear the dentist, but all of these people also know that the dentist is an indispensable professional for our good oral health.

HOT!

Also, if you ask let’s say 10 patients why exactly they fear the dentist, about 8 cannot give a definite argument.

Therefore dental fear is quite relative, and if you can find a comfortable dental practice environment, these fears might go away for good.

If you can see only those rigid steel instruments, the dentist’s white robe and mask, and also smell that typical odor of antiseptics… you would gladly run fast and never look back.

However if you are welcome in a comfortable dental environment with a waiting room with comfy chairs, some magazines, perhaps some relaxing music playing too, you will feel more confident to step into the next room and sit into the dental chair.

The very first thing to remember is that you must choose a dentist, which is highly skilled and professional. Then, the attitude of the dentist is yet another important factor.

Does he welcome you with a smile on your first visit? Does he try to talk to you, and telling you everything he actually sees during the dental examination?

This means that the dentist is trying to make you comfortable. Even if you cannot talk because your mouth is wide open during the exam, you ca still be distracted by what the dentist tells you.

The truth is that there are quite a few dentists which are not that gentle when performing an extraction, a filling, or even while checking out your mouth with the dental mirror.

If you do not feel well and comfortable during the initial dental exam, you will not feel good either when he is going to use the drill. Therefore, it is time to look for another professional.

In case you are extremely sensitive to pain, you should certainly tell this to your dentist. He will pay attention and work more gently, and generally let you know everything that he is going to perform and your phobia will go away.

Also, in such cases the dentist is going to use more of the numbing gels and anesthetics to make sure you do not feel the pain at all. So yes, one of the most important factors when choosing your dentist, or going to your dentist for treatments is that you feel utterly comfortable!
