There are several smaller medical tourism agencies available throughout which promote Slovakia, as the next best dental tourism destination. However, only a few people really know that this country offers indeed very high quality medical and dental treatment, at extremely low prices.
Even so, the Slovakian hospitals and dental clinics do not make huge efforts to promote themselves to the foreigners.
Local doctors say that these dental practices are mostly viewed as perfect for the foreigners who actually live in Slovakia, or for business travelers, and that they are not viewed as being an option for foreigners traveling to Slovakia with the purpose of having dental treatment.
The very first factor a medical tourist will consider in choosing a certain country is the quality vs. price equation. If in the respective country there are indeed doctors with a very good reputation in general, and medical facilities which use the latest technologies, and at the same time the prices are low too, people will tend to choose that respective country.
Also, the reputation of a certain country in the field of dental health and treatments is very important. If Slovakia would make a bigger effort in promoting itself internationally, the country would become a very famous spot for dental tourism.
Then, many Slovaks who are living abroad in countries such as France, Austria, England or Italy, actually come to back to their country for dental treatments and cosmetic surgeries especially.
Most of the foreigners, who arrive to Slovakia for their dental treatment, will first check the online offers and comparison shop carefully before making a final decision.
Slovakia may not be the cheapest country for these medial procedures, but then many believe that destinations that offer the cheapest price, will also offer lower quality medical services in general.
Compared to Western Europe, the dental treatments in Slovakia are about 1/3 or even 1/4 cheaper. The cost of the materials and dental equipment here is the same as abroad; the difference is that medical professionals are being paid lower salaries and fees. This is why the dental medical field is so affordable in this country.
Then, yet another reason, for which Slovakia is not on the hottest spots for dental tourism list, is that the Government has very little involvement in promoting the country, plus the marketing efforts in general are extremely weak.
Basically, there are very few private practices or dental clinics that have a well setup website which contains many details such as prices, technologies used, etc.
