Question

My son is 6 years old. Dentist says he has cavities between molars and all eight need fillings, because these teeth will not fall out until he is 12 or 13. Is it a good idea to spend $126 to $146 per tooth to fill baby teeth that will fall out.

Also front two bottom teeth have begun to come in behind baby teeth. We have arranged to have them extracted. The dentist also suggest we cut the piece( dont know name) that connects the tongue to bottom of mouth to allow more room for future teeth.

Positive Negative

Between molars is what we say proximal caries, and they can damage the main bulk of the tooth. As your son is 6 years old, and still the teeth have a life of 6-7 years, getting the cavities filled is a good option. The cavities can further lead to total tooth damage in just an year time, and later you will be left with harder options.

And for the lower front teeth, the piece you are mentioning might be lingual frenum. If its thick, and causing any problem with the eruption of the permanent teeth then it is usually cut and attached a bit behind the teeth, or totally removed. Extracting the primary teeth at correct time is a wise option, or it can cause tilting of the teeth that are coming out behind.
