Is it normal that my back molars on the bottom slightly slant inwards towards my tongue?
Question
Is it normal that my back molars on the bottom slightly slant inwards towards my tongue?
Answer
It is not just the molars but any of the teeth in the mouth can erupt in an improper way, and that occurs due to the direction that it got while it was still in a bud stage, within the jaw before it came out. The permanent molars come out at a place in the jaw where there was no tooth earlier, behind the primary molars.
And so, the ridge of jaw there can deviate the line of eruption of the molars. And it is not just the tilting towards tongue that is seen commonly, but the molars many a times, come out facing the cheek too.
It is not uncommon. It is a normal condition, and it may cause a problem only if the slanting is very high and it is causing problems while chewing the food.
For the other teeth than molars, the change in direction while eruption occurs if the milk teeth have not fallen and so the permanent tooth does not find the right direction to come out, and it takes a wrong one.
These all are common conditions, and they can be treated if they cause problem. Till then you don't need to be worried about it.
