Respecting some newly issued federal guidelines authorities have decided to lower the fluoride in water supplies.
The cities which will benefit from these new regulations include Melbourne, Titusville or Palm Bay from Brevard area.
Fluoride is an active ingredient that is important to dental health, but only if present in lower levels.
Officials in the Brevard area have concluded that since oral hygiene products such as toothpaste or liquid mouthwash do already contain the ingredient, the levels in the tap water should be reduced.
According to the old guidelines, water could contain anything between 0.7 and 1.2 milligrams of fluoride.
The recent guideline says that a maximum of 0.7 milligrams of fluoride is admitted per liter.
Dental practitioners and scientists in general agree that 0.7mg/ L is an acceptable proportion.
Before this regulation came into force recently, citizens from cities around Brewer did receive water with different levels of fluoride content, such as 0.9mg/L in 2010 for Titusville, while in Cocoa it was 0.6mg/L.

The controversy around fluoridation practices seems to never come to an end, but scientists all over agree that a certain balance is needed in order to help people have a good dental health.
In actual fact scientists all around he world are coming to an agreement that we are probably overdosing on fluoride because so much of the water – approx 99.5% goes down the drain and ends up watering our crops, some goes into your soda pops, your beer, your tea, your coffee – in fact so many foods and drinks now contain twice as much fluoride than you are allowed to put in your water.
Canada is waking up to this and they will move away from water fluoridation – will it be Australia that is next and leave Americans in our dust?
