UI College of Dentistry staff, students provide free dental care to Iowans

A total of 162 faculty, staff and students from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry were among the more than 1,200 dental professionals, dental assistants, dental hygienists and others who volunteered to treat patients free of charge at the Iowa Mission of Mercy event held Sept. 25-26, at the Iowa Speedway in Newton.

Keystone Dental Care offering free dental screenings for uninsured, underinsured

CHAMBERSBURG, Wednesday, Oct. 7 – Keystone Dental Care is offering free dental screenings, cleanings and restorations on Saturday to people who are uninsured or have minimal dental insurance.

Keystone Health said the tough economic climate may cause many families to neglect their dental and medical care. Free medical screenings will also be available. The event is sponsored by Highmark Blue Shield and United Concordia dental insurance.

Tooth Taxi rolls into Roseburg

Little mouths got a big gift this week as the Tooth Taxi rolled into town. The colorful, 38-foot modified RV acts as a mobile dental office as it travels the state to provide free care to uninsured and underinsured Oregon children.

About 35 children, grades K-12, will have received treatments, cleanings, preventive measures and education on oral health before the van pulls away from Fir Grove Elementary School on Thursday.

Pollard participates in Mission of Mercy free dental work

Dr. James Pollard of Boone got more than he expected after volunteering for this year’s Mission of Mercy event at the Iowa Speedway in Newton Sept. 25-26.

Despite the phone call informing him of the new addition to his family, however, Dr. Pollard continued to donate his time for the event with his new assistants…pulling more than 100 teeth at the event, and helping treat more than 1,500 patients in the two days.

Thousands of free toothbrushes could encourage dental care

An orthodontic business services provider recently donated thousands of toothbrushes to a children’s hospital in Louisiana to promote dental health.

OrthoSynetics offers dental practices assistance with business activities such as marketing, according to the firm’s website. The company just gave the New Orleans Children’s Hospital 10,000 free toothbrushes to help celebrate Orthodontic Health Month, says Dental Office Magazine.

Public dentists to vote on protest action over cuts

PUBLIC DENTISTS are to be balloted in the coming weeks on taking protest action if the Health Service Executive (HSE) makes further cutbacks to the sector.

Public dental surgeons are employed by the HSE to provide free dental services to vulnerable adults and school children. The service mainly focuses on special needs patients, children of medical card holders and children in disadvantaged schools.

Needy children receive free dental work

More than 200 orphans and disadvantaged children in HCM City will receive free dental care under a five-day programme that began at the Maple Clinic in District 1 on October 6.

Sponsored by the InterContinental Asiana Saigon, the dental examination and treatment will be provided by four dentists from the DentalClinics Nederland, a Dutch non governmental organisation (NGO).

The NGO is a collective of 40 dentists committed to providing preventive dental care and treatment to orphanages and underprivileged children in Vietnam.

Mca school children receive free dental work

A total of 400 school Children at the Minnesota Christian Academy primary in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region have received free dental treatment.

According to The Rev Dr Nunoo, 1,600 school children at Kofi Quaye near Nsawam Hills and eight other villages in the area had also been treated, adding that 300 children at Community 18 in Tema have been given dental care.
