At the Boys & Girls Club, we are proud to provide hope and opportunity to club members and their families through a wide range of services, not the least of which is our Health & Dental Services Center, which served 4,170 youths in 2010. It is one of our most valuable programs, and it sometimes comes to club members in the most unlikely packages.

Estivel Martinez, 15, likes to attend the club primarily for the hip-hop dancing lessons Monday and Wednesday evenings. While attending, Martinez took advantage of a free dental screening available to all club members in our Health & Dental Services Center. It was the first dental check-up he had ever received. The visit sparked his interest to pursue a dental hygienist job shadow through Jodi Loper, the Health & Dental Services director.

Patients ordered to pay NHS back following fraudulent claims

Hundreds of NHS patients have been ordered to pay money back after investigations revealed that they had fraudulently claimed free dental check-ups and prescriptions.

Last year, more than £40,000 was claimed fraudulently; 377 people have been ordered to pay money back to NHS Lothian as a result of wrongly claiming free prescriptions and an additional 343 people have been told to pay money back as a result of claiming free dental and vision checks.

Program aims to provide free dental care

A new provincial program will provide $2 million worth of free dental care to Ottawa children from low-income families.

At the Ottawa launch of the Healthy Smiles Program in the Le Patro Community Centre, Com­­- munity and Social Services Minister Madeleine Meilleur, a former nurse, emphasized the importance of dental visits for everyone.

Two Free Dental Clinics Awarded $92,000 in Grants from Hartford Foundation

January 10, 2011 (HARTFORD, CT) With an estimated one in three Connecticut residents without dental insurance, two free clinics scheduled this year in Waterbury and Hartford may set records for treatment.

The fourth Connecticut Mission of Mercy clinic will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 16-17, at Wilby High School, 460 Bucks Hill Road, Waterbury, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.

The third annual Inner City Dental clinic will be held Saturday, May 21, at Community Health Services, 500 Albany Ave., Hartford, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Dentists provide free dental care for Lodi Unified students

Students who might otherwise never be seen by a dentist are getting work done at a number of Lodi Unified School District schools. Big Smiles, a Los Angeles-based organization, visited Heritage Primary School on Wednesday and made prior visits earlier this month and in December, Principal Maria Cervantes said.
