New Trend: Dental Tattoos
New trends are sweeping around all four corners of the world. When something “chic” or “trendy” happens in one part of the world, the rest of it must copy it in an instant; otherwise you are not “cool”. New trends are sweeping around all four corners of the world. When something “chic” or “trendy” happens in one part of the world, the rest of it must copy it in an instant; otherwise you are not “cool”.
Among urban citizens, this is the new trend, to get a skull or an angel or whatever else design tattooed to your teeth.
According to orthodontist and implantologist Herman Verma, the youth nowadays is quite adventurous and they take on new trends much easier than generations before them. These dental tattoos are not something new, since they have been used in the West for years (approximately since the early 2000’s).
The majority of those who favor tooth tattoos are between 14 and 35 years of age, and there are going both women and men. Younger girls like to choose the star or angel symbols for a tooth tattoo, while men prefer other designs such as geometric forms or even skulls. Among other designs that are quite popular, one can find the initials, the hearts and arrows, the sign of victory, or even musical symbols.
These dental tattoos can be temporary or permanent. Dr Verma further explains that temporary tooth tattoos are tiny templates that are actually stuck /glued to the teeth. On the other hand, the permanent tattoos are actually drilled to the teeth, and they cannot be removed.
It takes no more than 20 minutes to fixate a temporary tooth tattoo. However, if one chooses the permanent option, the procedure could take even up to several hours (depending on the chosen design).
Once a person has such a dental tattoo, dental hygiene is even more important, if he/she wants to avoid the apparition of cavities. Other than that, there are no side effects associated with the procedure.
Regarding the mostly favored areas for tooth tattoos, they include the lateral upper incisors (most often), upper canine teeth, molars and premolars. The procedure in itself is not at all painful, but it might get quite costly for the regular teenager ($250-500).
However given the fact that tooth tattoos are not painful, more and more youngsters choose the procedure as a way of staying in trend, or being cool.
