Local clinic providing free healthcare and dental treatment for working uninsured
Sulphur, La. — The Calcasieu Community Clinic is a non-profit, free, health care clinic for the low-income, working uninsured in Southwest Louisiana. Kayla Rigney, Executive Director of the clinic, spoke on behalf of the organization at last week’s Sulphur Kiwanis Club meeting.
According to Rigney, the rate of uninsured adults in Louisiana is 26 percent, which translates to 730,000 adults with absolutely no health insurance benefits at all. About 39 percent of Louisiana residents, she continued, are living at or below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. That would mean that a family of three is living on $36,600 per year, or less. Many of these people are hard-working citizens who need every dollar they earn to provide for their families.
