Saliva is the Most Important Diagnosis Medium for Non-Invasive Dentistry

An extremely important protective factor of oral health is saliva.

HOT!

Patients from all over the world wish to be able to maintain healthy teeth, and a major protector is saliva, even though many people disregard the importance of this natural fluid in our mouths.

The internal structure of the tooth is called the dentin, and this is protected by the dental pulp and the odontoblasts. However, the external structure of the tooth which is the enamel, is protected by saliva.

When there is not enough saliva produced in the mouth, the patient can easily put up with oral health complications such as bad breath, or stained teeth. Since there is not enough saliva produced to wash away all the food particles and the tooth staining agents, the teeth become colored.

Then, salivary testing is yet another factor of huge importance. Nowadays, all you have to do is to allow the doctor to take saliva sample with a cotton swab, in order to run several tests and make all kinds of diagnostics.

Hormonal testing, alcohol tests or HIV testing are only a few of the problems that can be diagnosed and monitored through simple saliva tests.

Salivary testing is noninvasive which means that the patient does not feel pain or any kind of discomfort. A few years or decades ago health professionals needed to take blood in order to be able to make these diagnostics.

Saliva can reveal a lot of things about our general health. It is also extremely important to make sure that we produce enough saliva every day, in order to keep the mouth tissues moistened and healthy, and in order to wash away the harmful bacteria from the mouth through swallowing.

The tooth enamel is also kept extremely healthy if there is enough saliva production existent.

When a health condition is detected early enough, there will be a minimal invasive treatment needed to heal that condition. Moreover, a few years ago patients had to go to a hospital or doctor’s office in order to have a blood test and wait several other weeks for the results.

Today, there are the home kits available where the patient can take the saliva sample himself and send it to the lab for a certain testing.
