National Dental Insurer Fights Tooth Decay by Providing Free Dental Services in 2010
January 30th, 2010HARRISBURG, Pa. — United Concordia, one of the nation’s largest dental insurers, will observe February as National Children’s Dental Health Month by pledging to improve the oral health of communities it serves through education and sponsorship of at least 70 free dental programs for those in need in 2010.
“Dental disease is the most common disease in America, affecting people of all ages,” said Dr. Jerome Blum, corporate dental director for United Concordia Dental. “National Children’s Dental Health Month is the perfect time to raise awareness of the dental health problems children are facing today — problems that, left untreated, can lead to major health problems.”
To help combat the problem of dental disease in children, United Concordia Dental will provide free dental services, including exams, fillings and extractions, to those with little or no insurance. Last year, United Concordia provided nearly $590,000 in free dental services to more than 3,900 children and adults. United Concordia Dental works with a number of dentists, clinics, community organizations and dental hygiene schools to organize free dental programs across the country.
“Children are among the most common participants in our dental programs, and we ensure they receive a screening and provide either onsite restorative care or a follow-up dental treatment plan,” said Dr. Blum. “Dental checkups and preventive dental care are extremely important for children since unhealthy teeth and mouths at an early age can affect an individual for a lifetime.”
United Concordia Dental also promotes dental health education for kids through coloring pages and interactive games and puzzles on its Web site, www.UnitedConcordia.com, in the Dental Health Center.
