Since October is the National Dental Hygiene month, people from all over the country need to be aware about the importance of healthy teeth and gums.

Dental professionals constantly call the attention of people, that there are several health risks that they need to know of. For example, tooth decay is an extremely progressive disease, and if one postpones early treatment, this may lead to several complications.

If simple tooth decay is not treated in time, the patient will have to go later through more invasive and expensive treatments such as root canal treatment.

According to a study published in the Australian Dental Journal, one of the most common oral diseases of infectious nature is the dental decay. It is also important to keep in mind that dental decays can be easily passed along (they can be contagious).

The NIDCR (National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research) is sending out a warning according to which the human mouth is the main gateway to the rest of the body, and thus the human organism is quite easily infected with fungi, bacteria or different types of viruses.

At the dentist, there are around 120 different diseases which can be detected, among others the HIV infection, oral cancer or the herpes virus infection.

When you postpone your dental visit, not only are you allowing tooth decay to turn into a more serious disease, but you also avoid early prevention and treatment of other possible health complications.

Also, according to several recent studies in the field, untreated gum disease is directly linked to health conditions such as diabetes, heart complications, or pregnancy complications (such as preterm labor for instance).

Then, many people struggle with chronic bad breath, which is an extremely frustrating condition. With a simple checkup at the dentist, this health complication can be treated effectively.

Moreover, people who suffer from bad breath, damaged and discolored teeth, misaligned teeth and other such issues, will unfortunately have to struggle hard in order to have access to a good job on the market.

The very first thing a manager or an employer will notice, is the healthy and bright smile of the applicant…
