The Australian Dental Industry Association (or ADIA) strongly supports the recommendations coming from the Senate Committee according to which the importation of dental products needs more regulations.
It is important to mention that ADIA is a national organization that acts as main representing body of all the suppliers and importers of high quality oral health products.
ADIA further sustains that if the Senate will try to make these regulatory standards even more efficient, this will be extremely beneficial for the customers.
People will be able to trust even more all of the dental health products and devices that are from imports, and this is extremely important.
According to Troy Williams who is the ADIA Executive Officer, the organization has always sustained all the initiatives that were meant to secure reforms in the dental health field. With these reforms implemented it is also assured that in Australia there will be available on continuous basis only dental health products of high quality.
ADIA also rose the awareness upon the fact that buying/ importing medical devices and products over the internet is a field which needs even more regulations.
The answer of the Senate committee was that indeed, it is needed a much stronger set of regulations regarding the importation of these devices through the online medium. Further, the committee agrees that the issue should be further investigated by the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration).
The committee also raised awareness regarding the custom made dental devices. These seem to have escaped the scrutiny of the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
It is important to mention that statistics show that almost 50% of these dental prostheses which are custom made are actually manufactured overseas without much control or validation regarding the manufacturing source.
ADIA will work closely from now on with the TGA in order to make the necessary reforms in the field of dental health.
