Local dentists offer free visit

In February, dentists, oral surgeons, dental hygienists, dental assistants and office administrators will once again volunteer their time, energy and talent throughout the Seacoast area in what has become an annual event: “Dentistry With A Heart.”

This is a national program that was established in the Seacoast area of New Hampshire in 1988. This year’s program will continue its charitable philosophy of being available only to disadvantaged people without welfare resources or dental insurance.

This year the “Dentistry With A Heart” program is being organized by Dr. Brian Shuman, a dentist in Kingston. According to Shuman, “the essence of this program says that adults and children are invited to receive a dental service that can be provided in one visit.

Supported in part by the Florida Dental Health Foundation, the events will provide free dental care and information to thousands of children throughout Florida.

“It is great to have dentists, hygienists, assistants and other volunteers coming together to provide dental care to children whose families would not otherwise be able to afford it,” said PDC President Dr. Natalie Carr. “Last year, more than $1 million in dental care was provided to disadvantaged children. We hope to once again meet this goal in 2009.”

Local Dentists Offer Free Dental Care For Children

TOMS RIVER - On February 6, Ocean Pediatric Dental Associates will provide free preventive and emergency dental care for children under 12. This program, called Give Kids A Smile (GKAS), is part of the American Dental Association’s annual push to bring attention to the number one childhood disease, tooth decay.

The recent economic woes that have gripped the nation and the world have forced many parents to forgo dental care in order to save money. The GKAS program can offer a glimmer of hope to those families who are finding the times to be financially difficult.

“Giving back to the community that has supported my practice is so important,” says Dr. Elisa Vasquez. “This program, in its seventh year, will touch the lives of so many of New Jersey’s children who need oral health care instruction. I am proud to be a part of it.”
