Fixing up smiles — Free dental work
The annual Dentistry With a Heart event provides professional dental services that bring smiles to dozens of faces - all free of charge - during a full day of teeth cleanings, fillings and even extractions.
“We had 110 dental volunteers this year, which is incredible,” said Khara Sanchez, a dental hygienist at Riverside Dental Care, where the event takes place each spring.
The volunteers include dentists, hygienists and students from Dixie State College, interpreters, musicians, security and other personnel. Dentist Scott Bulloch also donated his time this year at his offices on 700 South to help with the extractions, Sanchez said.
Like many of the people waiting to be attended to, Jorie Harrison of St. George while waiting in line with Kris Grubham at this year’s free dental event she doesn’t currently have dental insurance and the event provided an opportune moment to take free care of a health need.
