LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Hundreds of folks on the South Plains received free dental care on Friday.

Texas Mission of Mercy held the clinic at the Civic Center with hundreds of volunteers from across the state helping to fill cavities, excavate teeth, and create acrylic partials for those missing teeth.

Local dentist honored for community service

A local dentist is being recognized for his service to the community. Southern Linc Wireless has named Dr. Russell Nichols from Fresh Wave Dental Care in Enterprise a Southern Hero.

Dr. Nichols joined up with Family Services of Coffee County to bring free dental care to children who couldn’t afford it. Many of whom have never been to a dentist before.

Dentists Give Back to Local Veterans

EUGENE, Ore. — A group of Lane County veterans will have a chance this Saturday to receive free dental work. The clinic is open this Saturday starting at 9 a.m., at the Lane Community College Dental Clinic, and is scheduled to treat 50 veterans with mouth and teeth problems. The dental care will be provided free of charge by seven local and retired dentists, with the help of the Lane County Stand Down Committee. Lane County Stand Down is a group dedicated to aiding all active and retired veterans in Lane County. The clinic will last from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, November 14th.

Free, Low-Cost Health Options Exist

OKLAHOMA CITY –
An Eyewitness News 5 report on free and reduced-cost health care clinics brought a call for even more.

One option is Variety Health Care, sponsored by the United Way. The program doesn’t turn anyone away and asks for payment based on how much the patient makes.

It has eight facilities across the state and offers medical, dental, vision and mental health care assistance. Potential patients can contact them at 405-235-6466.

Hospital to Organize Free Dental Check Up Camp

Ajman, Nov 14: GMC Hospital will be organizing a free dental camp in the premises of the hospital in Ajman from November 19 and 20, 2009. This camp is being held in association with the College of Dentistry of Gulf Medical University.

The hospital has requested the people to take full advantage of this annual opportunity being offered by the Hospital.

One of the aims of the camp is also to detect any dental problems in their incipient stage and to treat the condition before the problem aggravates. The hospital and the College of Dentistry aim at providing timely and quality dental treatment and assistance towards maintaining oral health to all the people towards regulating the spread of the dental problems and to stop any new problems from cropping up.

Texas Mission of Mercy providing free dental care to patients, most without insurance

The Texas Mission of Mercy, providing free dental care to more than 800 patients Friday and today in the Exhibit Hall of Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, signed up approximately 100 dentists and perhaps twice that many assistants from Lubbock and across the state for the event.

It was a first for Lubbock, although the 19th such project in Texas, according to Jay Adkins, a Lubbock dentist helping organize the project.
