Free Dental Work Day in Elkins
Statistics show that 42% of children will have some kind of tooth decay, and Tuesday kids in Elkins got the opportunity to get their teeth cleaned for free. About 40 kids got their teeth cleaned for free, and received information about dental insurance options for children.

Free dental work by dentist
Dentists in the area will volunteer their time and provide free dental screenings and immediate care for dental emergencies. Services will be provided to adults and children in the community who lack dental insurance. The event is sponsored by Sacred Heart Hospital along with United Concordia Dental and Highmark Blue Shield.

Going to the dentist is rarely a fun experience, but there are plenty of healthy smiles at the Ricardo Salinas Pediatric Dental Clinic. This dental care program on San Antonio’s west side is working to give children the right tools and habits so they can enjoy a lifetime of dental health. Texas Public Radio’s David Martin Davies has the story.

Affordable dental braces available to low-income patients
The program, which started in Kansas and has helped more than 1,200 patients since 1997, pays for most of the cost of braces or other orthodontic procedures to fix children’s’ teeth that are at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level.
The families must pay $500 to the organization for the cost of the treatment. Children apply to the organization and Smiles Change Lives picks the most severe cases to be handled by the nearest participating orthodontist.

Children’s free dental and health event forges on despite being scaled back
General Dentistry 4 Kids has stepped up to offer free dental examinations in its mobile clinic and to provide event organization. The effort has been spearheaded by Community Outreach Program Coordinator Yadira Solis, who is all about education about proper oral hygiene, including proper brushing, flossing and diet.

Annual Free Health Fair At Brookhurst Community Center
Medical and surgical specialists from various fields will be available to provide free consultations for children and adults. Offered services will include: Asthma and allergy screenings; blood pressure reading; bone density assessment; blood sugar, lipid profile and glucose testing (eight hours of fasting required); dental consultation; electrocardiogram (EKG); eye exams; mammography and women´s services; pediatric and adult physical exams. As explained by event co-organizer Dr. Nitin Shah, “Why offer free health screenings? Because health is the best wealth one can ever have.”
