BROOKSVILLE — They began lining up at least two hours before sunup Saturday.
Folks, many of whom hadn’t seen a dentist in years, and suffering with toothaches, abscesses and worse, waited patiently while Dr. Douglas Roth, his staff and a host of volunteers began preparing for the busy day ahead.
For the next 10 hours, Roth, owner of Denture Care Center on Powell Road, and another dentist saw more than 120 patients free of charge. For people like Bruce Wilkey, whose abscessed molar had been hurting for weeks, it was a godsend.

Oral Cancer Foundation to Donate Screening Devices to Free Dental Clinics
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — The Oral Cancer Foundation recently initiated a program of donating VELscope® Oral Cancer Screening Systems to free clinics and others located in, and helping communities with, underserved populations. The first recipient of this program is the Native American Community Health Center, commonly known as Native Heath, in Phoenix, Arizona, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
According to Oral Cancer Foundation executive director Brian Hill, “Our intent is to identify free clinics and health service providers in areas that have a high concentration of people who are both at risk for oral cancer and without the financial means to pay for comprehensive oral exams.” The Foundation is also careful to ensure that any clinic receiving aid in the form of equipment and materials has at least one dentist on staff that is regularly present to see patients.

Bright Smiles, Bright Futures: Taking Dental Services To Those In Need
(NAPSI)-In recent months, finding ways of addressing the nation’s pressing health care concerns has occupied center stage in Congress and the minds of many Americans. U.S. Census Bureau statistics indicate that there are approximately 46 million Americans without any form of health insurance, while tens of thousands may be postponing regular visits to their doctor or dentist in an effort to make ends meet.
In an attempt to provide greater access to health care to those in need, medical professionals in some areas of the country are teaming up with community and nonprofit organizations, as well as county and state governments, to provide free screenings and treatment via mobile health vans.
