DENTAL CLINIC — Approximately 150 students from Gene Ward Elementary School will receive free dental care today as the Shriners hold their Team Smile Dental Clinic at the Zelzah Shrine.

Group studies possible free clinic in Ames
The possibility of establishing a comprehensive free medical and free dental clinic in Ames took a step forward this morning with a meeting at Mary Greeley Medical Center.
Many area patients now obtain care at free clinics in Des Moines and Marshalltown, advisers from Urbandale-based Primary Health Care said. Primary Health Care is part of the Iowa-Nebraska network and is assisting Mary Greeley in the bid for funding.

Over 800 Lives of Domestic Violence Survivors Restored by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation’s Give Back A Smile Program
MADISON, Wis., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — October marks Domestic Violence Awareness month and on October 14, 2009, Health Cares About Domestic Violence Day, dental professionals across the country will reflect on over 800 domestic violence survivors whose lives and smiles have been restored by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry Charitable Foundation’s (AACDCF) Give Back A Smile (GBAS) program.
Sadly, more than five million people in the United States are affected by domestic violence each year. These startling statistics reflect why the AACDCF’s GBAS program was created. GBAS provides free cosmetic dental care to survivors of domestic violence. To date, over 800 cases have been completed by AACD dental professionals who have volunteered their time and expertise pro bono. There are currently 400 applicants being treated throughout the United States.

Free developmental screenings for toddlers next week
Infant, toddler and preschool developmental screenings of children ages 6 months to 5 years will be held Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Children’s Medical Services, 2390 Phillips Road.
These will be free for those who make an appointment and will focus on areas of vision, hearing, motor, speech, language, cognitive, behavior, growth and dental.

Clarendon residents get free dental care
SCORES of residents in Chapleton, Clarendon received thousands of dollars worth of free dental services last week, thanks to a team of American dentists who spent three days extracting, cleaning and filling teeth at the hospital in that community.
The dentist said he was able to perform as much as five procedures on one patient, in some instances.
Dr Greaves said next year he intends to bring the necessary equipment to do free root canals, a procedure which can cost over $20,000 in Jamaica.
