Healthcare and dental care costs to rise as benefits cutback takes effect

Dental care, drugs, spectacles and health insurance are all going up in cost from this week.

And nearly two million people covered by PRSI will no longer be provided with free dental treatment or spectacles.

The €54m cost-cutting move means they are only entitled to a free dental or eye exam from this month with all other benefits — except for access to hearing aids — abolished for for 2010, including a free clean and polish and reduced rates for extractions and fillings.

Mobile Dental Clinic Presents Three Oral Health Care Tips for Kids for 2010

The goal of St. Christopher’s Foundation for Children’s Community Oral Health Initiative is to improve the oral health of the community surrounding St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, a federally designated dental health provider shortage area. The five programs within the initiative stress early intervention and prevention of oral disease. One of those programs, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, provides comprehensive, quality dental treatment to more than 2,500 children each year, at no cost to their family.

Free Dental Cleaning - by student hygienist

I am a dental hygiene Student in my last semester looking for patients to help fill graduation requirements! In order to graduate I need to see many patients for 2-6 appointments each, for up to 3 and a half hours EACH appointment.

Free NHS Dental Treatments for low-income, children and pregnant

You can get free dental treatment (including check-ups) if you: are under 18, are under 19 and in full-time education, are pregnant, have given birth in the last twelve months, are getting Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance or the guarantee credit part of Pension Credit.

Also, some people on a low income, including some people getting tax credits, can get free NHS dental treatment or treatment at a reduced cost.
