Free dental care for kids available Feb. 21
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, and the Pender County Health Department Dental is conducting a “Give Kids A Smile” event Saturday.
From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Pender County Health Department, dentists and dental staff will volunteer their time to provide educational materials, screenings and free dental care such as cleaning, fluoride treatments and fillings. Appointments can be made at (910) 259-1503. The health department is located at 803 South Walker St., Burgaw.
Free dental work just what doctor ordered
DANVILLE — For the past 20 years Danville Family Dental practice has provided a free dental day to community members without health insurance or any other form of health care. Thomas Glibert, D.D.S. and Lisa Moster, D.D.S. opened their door to the pubic on Friday in recognition of February being National Dental Health Month.
“It’s our way as a dental practice of giving back to the community and showing our appreciation for the patronage. That’s why we are in the business we are in to help people,” said Glibert.
This year the dentists thought was a very important year to participate, especially with the layoffs and other economic troubles that many residents are facing.

Nonstop smiles at free dental clinic
Kimberley Brown can’t remember the last time she was so happy to visit the dentist — or receive three fillings in one hour. But on Friday, Brown, 40, left a one-day free dental clinic in Longview with a smile, despite her numbed jaw.
Brown was one of about 50 people to receive free dental care at Smiles Family Dental in Longview on Friday, located next to the new Starbucks on Ocean Beach Highway. Offices in Kelso, Woodland, Ridgefield, Hazel Dell and East Vancouver also ran clinics, called “Doctor with a Heart” the same day.
This is the first year more than one office offered the clinic, said Ann Lucas, operations manager for Smiles Family Dental. She pointed to a down economy and rising unemployment rate as reasons for expanding the free clinic this year.
More people are losing dental benefits or otherwise unable to afford trips to the dentist, she said.

Free program helps uninsured dental patients
PASADENA – Pasadena dentist Dr. Robert Shimasaki offered free smiles to the uninsured Friday at a Dentistry from the Heart event at his Park Place Dental Care clinic.
“Now more than ever, I know there’s people out there that need my services but lack the means to afford them,” he said.
Shimasaki and clinic staff were on hand until 3 p.m. Friday, offering free extractions, cleanings and fillings to anyone that needed the dental work.
Dentistry From the Heart, a national nonprofit organization that has been going strong for eight years, helps people without insurance receive complimentary dental care.
