Free dental services offered in Alexandria

Caring Hands Dental Clinic in Alexandria, which provided free dental services to more than 1,400 people of all ages in 2009, is expanding to serve more in need this year.

It has openings for adults and especially children with its pediatric program. The clinic serves patients on Medical Assistance and Minnesota Care programs. Caring Hands has been offering basic dental care for about three years for people who otherwise couldn’t afford it.

Dental scheme must target the needy in Australia

AUSTRALAN Governments continue to dither, with no firm action to assist disadvantaged Australians gain more equitable access to dental care.

The Council of Australian Governments at its meeting in December could only agree “that long-term health reform was required to deliver better services for patients, more efficient and safer hospitals, more responsive primary health care and an increased focus on preventative health”.

Equitable access to dental care is good. But without an eligibility filter or means test this universal scheme will not ensure equitable access. In fact, it’s more likely to increase access for people who already gain access to dental services. It’s reasonable to expect everybody and anybody to take more opportunity to get some basic “free” dental work done, then top up any follow-up treatment with their own funds.

Wilson Free Dental Clinic: Kids caught in between will have special reason to smile Feb. 19

CANDY MILLER treasures the memory of hundreds of local children whose serious dental problems have been repaired free of charge.

As one of the organizers of the fourth annual Give Kids a Smile Day, Miller is looking forward to creating more memories Feb. 19, when the free dental clinic will be held at the Adams County Health Department.

The first local Give Kids a Smile Day in 2007 was a sobering experience for the dental care professionals who volunteer their time for the event. Many of the children who came in for care had serious, painful problems. In some cases, there was no chance to save teeth.

Davie university receives grant to provide free dental services to elementary students

About 400 elementary school students from low-income families in the North Miami Beach area will receive free preventive dental services from Nova Southeastern University in Davie.

NSU’s College of Dental Medicine recently announced that it will use a $58,141 grant from the Dr. John. T. Macdonald Foundation to provide free dental services such as cleanings, fluoride application, sealants and oral hygiene instruction to students of three participating elementary schools in North Miami Beach beginning this month.

NSU plans to provide the free dental services throughout the school year. The program is designed to provide the children with preventative oral health services at NSU’s North Miami Beach Dental Clinic.

San Bernardino Free Dental and Health Clinic

CWRU Offers Free Dental Exam Day

CLEVELAND — Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine at Cornell Road and Emergency Drive will offer free dental services: exams, x-rays and teeth cleanings during its annual Prophy Day on Jan. 30, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Walk-in patients of 18 years and older will be seen on a first-come basis.
