In hard-times Flint, free clinic sets example for universal health care

This free clinic serves those whose income is under 200 percent of the federal poverty level and who have no health insurance of any kind. The clinic doesn’t charge a cent. And if someone doesn’t qualify for its services, the staff doesn’t let anyone go away without a phone number or contact.

On a limited basis, the clinic can arrange for dental care for its patients. As with other health conditions these days some patients come in with serious dental problems. People “worrying about whether they should get their car fixed or heat, are not going to worry about going to the dentist,” Turcke said. “As a result, just like their health care, they wait until they need an extraction or antibiotics before seeking help.”

Hannibal Free Clinic offers new service

HANNIBAL, MO — Saturday marked two years since the Free Clinic’s began seeing low income, uninsured patients in Northeast Missouri.

Now the clinic is able to offer dental care to qualified patients thanks to some dedicated volunteers.

Dr. E.W. Harder and folks at the Hannibal Dental group are volunteering time each month to help enhance dental health in the population served by the free clinic.

Coordinator Sharon Webster said, “There is new evidence that dental care and dental health affects every other part of your healthcare. If you have chronic infections in your teeth you are in pain, you don’t eat well and your body has a chronic infection in it and you’re just run down.”

Free health clinic will cater to workers

A group of local volunteers plans to build a free health clinic geared specifically to uninsured or underinsured workers in Lebanon by the end of the year.

The Volunteers in Medicine Free Health Clinic, located at 711 S. Eighth St., will provide free medical and dental care to working individuals between the ages of 18 and 64 whose income falls below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. For example, a family of four with an annual gross income of $44,100 will be eligible to receive the clinic’s services.

Neb. dental students, profs to hold free clinics

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) – Dozens of dental students and professors from the University of Nebraska’s dental college will contribute their skills at clinics for children in western Nebraska.

The free dental clinics are scheduled for Sidney, Alliance, Chadron and Gordon.

Some 200 children will be getting dental cleanings, dental sealants and fluoride treatments. Their cavities will be filled and their bad teeth removed – all for free.
